ABOUT
Over the course of more than a year, Capital Creatives worked closely with this Capitol Hill family to build an art collection from the ground up — a deeply personal and entirely original collection designed to grow alongside the lives unfolding within the home. At the center of the project was a simple but important belief: art should not merely decorate a family home, it should actively participate in it. Every acquisition was selected with the couple’s four children in mind — their ages, personalities, curiosities, and daily rhythms all thoughtfully considered throughout the process. The goal was to create moments of beauty, wonder, and emotional connection around every corner: pieces the family would live with, grow up beside, light up at, and continue discovering over time.
The resulting collection spans photography, abstract painting, printmaking, beaded folk art, and even impressionistic works, balancing timelessness with playfulness and sophistication with warmth. Throughout the home, traditional and contemporary works move fluidly beside one another, creating an interior language that feels layered, dynamic, and deeply human rather than overly prescribed. When the collaboration began, the clients had no existing art collection — but a newly renovated dream rowhome and a desire to fill it meaningfully. Together, we undertook an extensive discovery process, exploring formative memories, initial responses to all kinds of art, aesthetic instincts, and the kinds of works each individual strongly gravitated toward — or instinctively rejected. Each room and space was approached independently yet always considered as part of a larger whole, ensuring the collection unfolded naturally throughout the home while remaining in harmony with the architecture and thoughtful details of the renovation. Above all, the clients wanted every acquisition to feel undeniable — not simply a piece that “worked” with the interiors, but one that sparked genuine feeling, excitement, and recognition.
The final collection feels lived-in, resonant, and enduring: a home filled not only with art, but with memory, instinct, personality, and some fun too!
